Working life.....isn't it stressful?

It's been another busy week but I am expecting a busier week in 2 weeks time when my project is going to kick off. Hopefully everything will be alright by then....Namo Amitabha.

Kinda feel tired of working in this way...always chasing against time and rushing for projects to be completed within a short time of notice. Been thinking of changing job to get myself more of my own time and perhaps to have more things done actually. How about going to overseas and explore the chances? Japan? But mostly will end up doing works in restaurants or shops......after all the hard work and getting a degree....my sis been saying it's a waste of getting a degree in the first place. I do think of it though. However all I ever wanted is to show to those who look down on me and my family that I can get a degree just like they did and do better than them too. I just wanted to get myself at least a bachelor degree......and if things really work well, i do not really mind. But looking at the what I've been now, it's like I will still be working in the same situation struggling to earn more money down the road. So might perhaps jump start with getting more money into my account first and get a house!

Arghhh....i dunno. Let's see how things develop in a few more months from now. Perhaps I might change my mind again.

Conversations with my best friend about his current beau, whoever it might be at that point in time, inevitably involve the question of sex. While he’s had the creativity to explore a myriad of venues from Fort Canning Hill to toilets in random hotels, my best friend, Justin, has never reached a conclusion with regard to his preferred sexual role. You see, Justin has not been able to decide if he’s a top or a bottom, and is perfectly comfortable having never explored either option. This is where Justin and I differ. Having explored both the insertive and receptive role, (rather happily, if I might add,) I’ve decided that I am definitely more comfortable with the former. This does not mean that bottoming (yes, it’s a word) is something out of the question; it’s just less preferred. Since we are all biologically similar, it is reasonable to assume that moving along the spectrum of ‘top or bottom’ is hence a choice made on other grounds. I have a friend suffering from piles, but he’s more of an exception rather than the norm. What, then, is the root of this choice? Studies have suggested that nurture, more than nature, determine if one is a top or bottom. There seems to be a direct link between one’s nurtured personalities, and their preferred sexual role. In one study, it was observed that men who prefer to top like to exert power over their sexual partners while those who prefer to bottom like to feel overpowered. In 1992, Weinrich also concluded that early childhood play preferences were good indicators of sex role preferences in adult gay men, further bolstering to idea that nurture, more than nature, determines which role one adopts in the bedroom. However, the words ‘Top’ and ‘Bottom’ are not just terms bandied around on IRC and in bed. Their implications reach beyond that - they are also a reflection of our personality, reinforced with every steamy session under the covers. As such, one’s ‘top’ or ‘bottom’ tendencies are sure to carry beyond the bedroom. Broadly speaking, when someone is the ‘top’ in the relationship, he’s usually the male figure in the household; he does what the man of the house would do, ranging from carrying the shopping to opening the doors. The ‘bottom’ gets to enjoy these perks and tends to be doted on by his partner; think knight in shining armour to the damsel (dude?) in distress. This prompts us to question if the preference to top or bottom is simply a manifestation of one’s personality. If this is the case, this implies that bottoms do not exhibit traits associated with tops and vice versa. This assertion, however, assumes that human behaviour is entirely predictable and consistent. As gay men, we know that this isn’t the case. After all, much of our lives revolve around uncertainty and ambiguity. Our preferred sexual role is not exempt from this. Whichever side we tend towards, it is usually a result of exploration and a culmination of experiences. Regardless of our personality traits, many of us attempt both roles such that we are able to better decide which we prefer. This is of course, a rational and considerate act. What seems therefore inconsistent is when one who prefers topping (yes, it’s also a word) assumes the submissive role. Perhaps the view that gay men top or bottom according to their behaviour is too simplistic. After all, sex is more than just fulfilling your own desires. Satisfying your partner is also a primary concern, and choosing to give or receive is a just a means to satisfy this desire. As such, allowing one’s partner to assume his role of choice, even though it might involve some discomfort or even pain, is a choice that some readily make. Another (more graphic) way to look at it is this: watching your boyfriend pound you and listening to his heaving and grunting can turn you on as much as doing the same to him. Sexual arousal and eventual satisfaction, in this case, comes from knowing that you are the cause of your partner’s ecstasy. In this light, the roles of ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ then become an arrangement simply to facilitate enjoyment and intimacy together. In a loving relationship, it is reasonable to believe that there will be little difficulty in choosing which to be. While the roles of each seem to be neatly delineated at the start, time and familiarity blur the lines between what it means to be the ‘top’ and ‘bottom’. As a relationship matures, couples begin to trust one another more as a result of increasing mutual respect and love for each other. This opens more possibilities for them, including in bed. This could include, for instance, indulging in fetishes and switching roles. After all, what’s a bit of pain when you know that your bottom boyfriend is having a rocking time taking you from behind? The beauty of such an arrangement lies in the fact that it can be made when a relationship has matured beyond a certain point. Beyond this point, couples are also mature enough to discuss their sexual preferences and work out ways in which sex can always be fresh and fulfilling. In choosing to top or bottom, it is evident that our motivations remain diverse. Presented so far are the best possibilities, pointing out the best of our natures and a certain kind of selflessness - even in bed where our carnal desires are supposed to take over our better sensibilities. In the same vein, perhaps Justin is right after all. There might not ever be a need to even explore the possibilities of anal sex if other forms of physical intimacy can provide sufficient satisfaction. If what we seek from sex is the physical closeness that it offers, ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ may not need to be part of our vocabulary. In fact, simple cuddling and kissing might suffice, just like many straight couples out there that never step beyond second base. Justin is currently seeing somebody new and, despite some pain, he’s had an unexpectedly good time bottoming for his partner. They’re arranging to do it again, but this time they get to switch roles. Justin’s definitely looking forward to the sex, but more importantly, he’s looking forward to just spending time with his new boy. He’s not really bothered by the minor details of who’s the top and bottom. He’s just happy being in love and that’s something neither nature nor nurture can really explain.

Edison Chen (Traditional Chinese: 陳冠希; Pinyin: Chén Gūanxī; Cantonese: Chan Kwoon Hei; born October 7, 1980 in Vancouver, Canada) is a popular Hong Kong teen idol. He was an artist of the Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG). Edison Chen’s contract with EEG ended in 2005.

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Edison is of Chinese descent on both sides but his father is of ¼ Portuguese ancestry, as his father is a Macanese.

Edison Chen was born on October 7th, 1980. Raised in Vancouver and New York, he now lives in Hong Kong and currently works in Asian Cinema, Music and Fashion. He owns a lifestyle company named CLOT, which works with labels and artists from all around the world gathering them all together in unison in the Greater Asian region, although they are based in the Hong Kong region. Seemingly this is the first venture of this sort of cause in Hong Kong. Edison’s official online blog states that “He is just a normal everyday guy like you, but only his job is to entertain…”

Prior to his music career, he went to High School in Hong Kong International School (HKIS) in the class of 1998. He also attended high school at R.C Palmer Secondary School in Richmond, BC. He was considered a poor student among many teachers at both schools. Some of his peers said that he always skipped classes and was considered somewhat anti-social.

Chen has starred in many films including Infernal Affairs II and Twins Effect. He also sings cantopop and can speak English, Cantonese,Japanese and Mandarin. However, as with many foreign-born Chinese, Edison does not have a perfect command of Cantonese or Mandarin. He is idolized for his “cool” attitude and his good looks, though critics cite him as conceited (”chuen”, “串”, in Cantonese slang).

Though many consider Edison Chen to be the first pop singer who brought hip-hop culture to Hong Kong music industry, it was LMF that began the underground hip-hop industry in Hong Kong. But if LMF started hip-hop in Hong Kong, Edison made it mainstream in Cantopop. This is reflected as many of Edison’s rap songs feature MC Yan from the now disbanded LMF.

His song “香港地” (Hong Kong Place), featuring MC Yan and Han Jin, about how the Hong Kong people are like, and calls for union of the Hong Kong people, was one of the great hits in 2004. Edison continued his hip-hop style, and released another hip-hop album HAZY in 2005. The song “嘥氣” (Waste of Breath) describes the assault incident Edison encountered before.

Edison’s first movie Gen-Y Cops received terrible reviews from the Hong Kong media. As he has gained more experience he has improved somewhat since those early days. He recently starred in the film Jiang Hu in which his character had to rape a dog as a punishment. This scene however, did not bring praise from critics as Edison remains , as some critics say, “talentless”. In the movie Initial D Chen took the role of Ryosuke Takahashi.

Currently, Edison is making his Hollywood Debut in the Grudge 2, the second in a Japanese horror remake of Ju-on, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Amber Rose Tamblyn. He is casted as a an investigative reporter. The film will be released on Friday, October 13 2006.

In March 2004, Edison Chen was assaulted by two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, in downtown Hong Kong. The two teenagers apparently mocked Edison by breakdancing in front of Edison as he was leaving a hair salon. One of the teenagers swung at Edison and hit him in the right ear. The two teens ran off whilst Edison gave chase for nine city blocks before returning to the same shopping arcade. There he called his “assistants” (rumored to be ex-Triads) to look for the two teens. They were eventually caught on a bus.

“I was watching (incest-themed porno movie) ‘Giba-san! Mo Gaman Dekinai (Stepmom! I Can’t Hold On Any Longer)’ one night with my husband when I discovered Minami was the star. I was immediately smitten. Now, I go out and rent dirty movies on my own,” a housewife in her late 30s tells Shukan Shincho. “What’s good about him? I suppose it’s because the gentle sex techniques he uses on women get me excited.”

Minami Nagashima, the female porno director who discovered Minami, is not surprised at the success her protégé is now enjoying.

“Satellite TV finally made inroads into Japanese homes in 1999 and it has become a time to enjoy adult movies thanks to channels like (soft-porn oriented) Paradise TV, with its mostly housewife viewers,” Nagashima says. “Women wanted an actor who was young, stylish and who painted a pretty picture to star in the dirty movies they watched. That’s why Minami’s rise has been so meteoritic.”

Even though Minami has appeared to have popped up from nowhere, he has in fact made over 1,500 movies over the past five years and become a virtually guaranteed top selling performer over the past two years only. But now, in an industry where a hit is regarded as one that achieves sales of over 2,000 videos, Minami movies regularly top 3,000 and rental outlets and retailers are having a hard time keeping up with demand.

“Considering he’s baring all for every performance, it’s wonderful that he’s become so popular among normal women,” sex biz writer Igari tells Shukan Shincho. “The days when adult videos were for men only have long gone. American porn stars have been succeeding in a variety of fields for years. I’m delighted to see that the same thing is finally happening in Japan.”
